I believe in an open mind…

I was recently thrilled to find that one of the quotes I submitted for consideration to Print Magazine’s Imprint blog was selected to be turned into an illustration for the “Words of Wisdom” column of fabulous graphic designer Seymour Chwast!

Chwast, along with equally famous graphic designer Milton Glaser and others, was one of the founders of the iconic New York design and illustration studio PUSHPIN STUDIOS in 1954. PUSHPIN became one of the guiding references in the world of graphic design and illustration, in effect helping to revolutionize the way people look at design. Chwast’s work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and major museums around the world.

I actually had the pleasure of meeting Chwast himself at the San Diego Comic Con last year, and being able to tell him just how much his work had influenced my own career as a graphic designer, so this lucky chance of having an illustration done by him based on my suggestion was truly a treat!

Take Back the Tap! campaign

COS-Water-Poster-GirlAmericans spend nearly $15 billion annually on bottled water, in part because they buy into the myth of purity in a bottle and think that it is somehow safer or better than tap water.  The City of Sarasota is promoting a new Take back the Tap! campaign, which is designed to educate the consumer about the many benefits of drinking City water compared to bottled water.

Since 2009 the City has reinvested over $13.5 million in its water utility infrastructure to ensure that future generations have access to safe, affordable drinking water.

This Fertility Clinic has helped thousands of patients from around the world conceive. Their new brochure outlines the full range of advanced reproductive technologies for patient consideration, from intrauterine insemination (IUI) to donor egg IVF, and includes some unique options such as natural cycle IVF which is less expensive, patient-friendly, but still effective.

Established in 1987 and well-known throughout the Washington, D.C. area, the clinic’s physicians have consistently been chosen as “Top Doctors” by Washingtonian magazine, and have received numerous awards for their teaching of physicians, residents and medical students.

“What About the Boy?” Book Cover Design

What About the Boy? A Father’s Pledge to His Disabled Son is a soon-to-be-released memoir by Stephen Gallup about parents who became dissenters, albeit in the cause of achieving normal life, for themselves and their child. The parents protested a medical protocol that, in their view, offered nothing to a baby who was obviously in great distress, and explored the offerings of alternative medicine and witnessed startling achievements. They also discovered the significant costs of their course of action.

34th Annual CMED Conference

Graphic Arts Studio is once more coordinating advertising materials for the annual Conference on Management, Executive and Professional Development Programs (CMED) through ProEd Corporation/InfoLists.

The CMED Conference is the premier annual university-only conference event for directors, program managers and coordinators, contract training and marketing managers and other key professionals. Session topics range from senior-level strategy to operational nuts and bolts and technology, all designed to improve an organization’s programming, marketing and profitability. The conference returns this year to the The Embassy Suites Hotel Phoenix-Scottsdale in Phoenix, Arizona.

Gulf Gate Animal Hospital Logo

Gulf Gate Animal Hospital serves veterinary clients in the Sarasota neighborhoods of Gulf Gate, Palmer Ranch, Siesta Key, south Sarasota, Casey Key, Lido Key, Longboat Key, Nokomis, South Gate, Venice, and North Port. Using current techniques and technology within a caring environment, they are dedicated to providing the best in preventative veterinary healthcare for all family pets.

Organic Living Fair Logo

The first annual Organic Living Fair was be held from 9:30am to 3:00pm on Friday, March 12, 2010 on Longboat Key, Florida.

This open-to-the-public event was for the purpose of providing education about sustainable landscaping and water conservation specifically to Longboat Key residents and homeowner associations. Cash-and-carry organic living products and a farmers market were also available. The vision of Grant and Danielle Beatt, this year’s event is sponsored by Grant’s Gardens. Myakka Conservancy Logo

The Myakka Conservancy Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting the ecological values and agricultural heritage of the Myakka River basin, recently adopted a new logo designed by Deborah J. Bell, owner of Graphic Arts Studio in Bradenton.

The logo features a cluster of palm fronds with the organization’s name. Founded in 1991, the Conservancy’s focus is the entire Myakka River watershed, from Manatee County through Sarasota County and to Charlotte Harbor in Charlotte County. The Conservancy pursues its goal of encouraging and facilitating conservation through a combination of public acquisition, conservation easements and private stewardship. The organization’s board members represent all three counties, as well as the agricultural, urban, business and environmental concerns in the basin.
